Jenny’s karate studio use to be a few doors down from us. It made things so easy for me if I had appointments after work like therapy or I had to pick up medication. I asked her if it bothered her and she said no she liked her new found freedom.

Well, last week that was all about to change. The studio was planning to move to the mall which was twenty minutes away. Great!  I looked at my calendar already full and had to rearrange everything and make it work. We will even have to pack dinner, can’t have them going hungry, and it’s not in the budget to eat out twice a week. But  intriguing idea. LOL

Our first night on the crazy schedule Pooh and I were walking through the mall while Jenny had Karate class. Going home and coming back would have been just a waste of time so I tried to have a proper mindset and find something good through the added schedule.
That’s when I stopped at Golds Gym. They had a special going on, so I went to check it out. The guys there were very friendly and  welcoming.  And it made Pooh very euphoric, so I ended up joining. They said Pooh was free, whenever I bring him. My favorite four letter word. “free.”

The instructor gave us a quick tour. We entered one room which was dark. Music was pretty loud, and I wasn’t sure how Pooh would take it. Surprisingly, he was more fixed on the string of lights behind the instructor than anything else. That’s when he hollered out, “Christmas all done! Time to put the lights away, tell’em mommy Christmas all done!” Sure enough, everyone heard him over the loud music. LOL, so I prompted him to move on, while still trying to reason with me about the lights.

When we left, I went over  how I could make this work with my crazy scedeuale. The bonus I have something good to tell my therapist,  I did something for me.

After going to the gym two times a week for the first two weeks I saw a big difference in his sleeping. Comments from his teacher  were more focused and on task. I think we are on to something and it looks really good.

I have spent the last 12 years coaching children w/autism, developmental delays, etc. It is easy when they are young and the parents have the ability to bring them to me for one-on-one sessions, but I have trouble convincing parents of the massive effects of continuing exercise together as a family when they have graduated. It is important for every human being to get exercise and reap the benefits of overall health. Just wanted to comment and give you a big ole high five for your efforts. Both of you will reap the rewards.

Thank you so much for visiting. With my son, consistency has been the key for him, he enjoys it so much. We are still at it twice a week for an hour. Just that alone has made such a progress in his focus and overall health.

Its been a learning process for me. Not only excepting the fact he is a teenager (LOL) but also wondering what is in his best interest and learning new things. Going to the gym has been very positive and the people there have been great with him
